About the roleThe Analysis Platform features advanced analytical facilities. The Microanalysis Technician supports the Microanalysis Specialist in work involving the Electron beam facility with WDS, EDS and CL detectors.
The NHM has a long history of excellence in mineralogical analysis using Electron beam techniques and provides the backbone of this research. We use the Electron beam facility to undertake diverse work across the fields of natural history and mineralogy including the classification of meteorites and new minerals, ore deposits research, volcano logy, sea floor deposits and a wide range of other applications.
Aboutyou
We’re looking for a proactive individual who is experienced in running, maintaining and calibrating an Electron Beam Instruments. You’ll have a PhD in Earth Sciences/Geological Sciences or equivalent relevant experience with demonstrable knowledge of minerals, geochemistry and petrology.
You’ll have experience of methodical data collection, processing, archiving and database management and a proven record of collaborating on mineralogical research using EPMA and/or SEM-EDS.

The Museum supports flexible working however, due to the nature of this role, the work pattern will be 80% on site.
