Overview
Contract: Full time, 3 months fixed term contract
Reports to: Director of Research
Benefits: Nine-day fortnight (with alternate Fridays designated as a day off), 25 days Annual Leave (pro-rata), staff learning fund, enhanced parental benefits package, flexible working.
Based in: Either fully remote or London office, with an optional hybrid model.
HOPE not hate are looking for a freelance journalist/researcher to join the Research Team’s Reform UK Monitoring Unit for three months to work on a specific report. The role will include:
- Monitoring, researching and publishing relevant articles and reports about Reform UK.
- Working with teams across HOPE not hate to ensure they have relevant information for campaigns.

- Someone passionate about opposing the far right and hate in all its forms. Being able to demonstrate a knowledge of Reform UK or the far right would be helpful.
- Someone with excellent research, investigative and journalistic skills.
- Someone with excellent writing skills. You will be required to write and publish.
- Someone with an interest in online research and open-source intelligence techniques is a bonus.
- Someone who is proactive, innovative and intelligent and is able to work fast and independently.
- Someone who can demonstrate emotional resilience when working on a tough issue in a high pressure climate. We understand that our work can be stressful, and we have support in place for all team members who need it, but we encourage applicants to think carefully about whether they are prepared to work on this subject area day in day out.
Research is at the heart of HOPE not hate’s work. It enables us to understand our opponents, it gives us the information and ability to challenge and counter hate, it directs and supports our community organising and campaigning, and it provides vital background that shapes our educational work.
