Company Description

Syli - pronounced SOU-Lee - supports mission-driven journalism in service of informed audiences around the world. We have a specific focus on climate activities. We are a recently established non-profit (UK community interest company).

We want to see a world in which everyone has access to equitable, trustworthy and accurate information.

We support and advance mission-driven journalism by fostering new, forward-looking concepts and identifying sustainable financial models for journalism. We are creating a healthier, more sustainable media ecosystem for better informed global audiences who are empowered to take action for the benefit of all people, communities and the planet.

Job Description

We are looking for an Impact Researcher. The Impact Researcher provides the analytical backbone for Syli’s work, focusing on the "how" and "why" of our influence through rigorous qualitative and quantitative methodologies. You will be responsible for designing and analysing survey data (such as the climate

Xchange impact surveys), conducting deep‑diving interviews, and authoring the major evaluation reports that demonstrate our value to funders and the wider journalism ecosystem. Your work ensures that Syli’s claims are always supported by robust evidence and research rigour.

Your focus is on insight and evidence. You will ensure that Syli’s and its brand methodologies remain grounded in research best practices and that our internal frameworks are constantly refined based on what the data tells us. Your findings will provide the critical proof‑points needed for our future growth, helping us to communicate our success to the world with confidence and clarity.

The position is for an immediate start and is a hybrid role, primarily remote but with in‑person days in London up to eight times a month. This position is offered as a full‑time staff position in the UK. Candidates must already live in the UK and have the right to work in the UK. You will need to ensure you have access to a suitable professional and confidential environment with a reliable internet connection to carry out your duties.

Some international travel will be required.

The position is full time over Monday to Friday. This is a fixed‑term contract ending on 31 December 2026. However, pending securing the required funding, we intend for this to become a multi‑year programme.

Responsibilities
  • Implement impact measurement frameworks, tools, and processes across climate

    Xchange, working within established strategy.
  • Collect, manage, and analyse quantitative and qualitative impact data relating to audience knowledge, reach, and engagement across all Syli initiatives, including climate

    Xchange and Impact Lab.
  • Apply monitoring tools to assess programme and media impact, ensuring data quality and consistency.
  • Translate research findings into practical insights that inform content development and programme learning.
  • Lead advanced data analysis to generate insights that shape editorial, programme, and organisational decisions.
  • Contribute substantively to internal and external impact reporting, including documenting learning and action points.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and support engagement with external research and evaluation partners.
Pay

£40,000 per year based on 35 hours per week.

Qualifications
  • Self‑starter who can work independently whilst also collaborating with other team members.
  • Experience working for or in partnership with an international non‑profit organisation.
  • Able to develop monitoring and evaluation frameworks that incorporate KPIs.
  • Can analyse, interpret, and communicate data for a range of different audiences in different formats.
  • Passion for climate reporting, additional languages, and experience with Slack and Google Workspace are beneficial.
  • Excited to make a difference in climate journalism and communications and lead the way in impact measurement.
