Clinical Trials Coordinator and Rater

This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of the internationally renowned clinical research team at the Dementia Research Centre (DRC) within the National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery (NHNN). The Centre has a long history of innovative research in dementia including longitudinal cohort studies, multimodality deep phenotyping of rare dementias, international consortia in genetic dementias and cutting‑edge clinical trials in those with and at risk of dementia.

The centre is currently involved in first‑in‑human studies in Alzheimer's Disease (AD) using genetic therapies and treatment trials in at‑risk individuals with genetic AD and genetic Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD).

Join a dynamic, enthusiastic and extremely organised person to provide study coordination and rating to enhance trial conduct at the DRC.

Main duties of the job
  • Administer clinical and cognitive assessments to study participants and their study partners where appropriate.
  • Provide training to ensure a high level of proficiency in cognitive assessments such as CDR, ADAS‑Cog, RBANS, NPI, RUD‑lite, CGIC, etc.
  • Start as soon as possible for a 12‑month fixed‑term contract.
Study coordination
  • Liaise with research participants and clinical trials teams to ensure visits align with study protocols.
  • Liaise with multidisciplinary teams for smooth study conduct.
  • Liaise with service support departments, sponsors and clinical research organisations during trial set‑up and operation.
  • Ensure trial activities are invoiced appropriately and coordinate with finance officers.
  • Conduct cognitive assessments in clinical studies.
  • Work alongside Clinical Research Delivery staff in rating dementia trials.
Communication
  • Communicate with participants and others about trials in appropriate terms.
  • Respond promptly with the DRC and Leonard Wolfson Experimental Neurology Centre trials teams.
  • Support the highest standards of trials conduct as part of the DRC trials team.

Specification Knowledge and Qualifications
  • Degree in psychology, neuroscience, or a related discipline.
Experience
  • Working experience in a clinical and/or research environment.
  • Experience on clinical trials.
  • Experience with people with dementia.
  • Experience with other rating scales.
  • Knowledge of research governance and GCP guidelines.
  • Experience conducting CDR assessment.
  • Experience in database management.
Communication
  • Awareness of the importance of working in a multi‑disciplinary team.
  • Effective verbal, written and electronic communication.
  • Empathetic communication with patients and carers.
Skills and Abilities
  • Advanced IT proficiency in Excel, Word, email and web‑based applications.
  • Meticulous and accurate approach with attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills.
  • Understanding of research and clinical trial methodology.
Personal and People Development
  • Resourceful and able to act on own initiative.
  • Interest in dementia research and commitment to high‑quality research.

Salary

£46,419 to £55,046 per annum inclusive of HCAS, pro rata.

Contract

Fixed term 12 months.
