Transition Research Analyst

As part of the Transition Research team of the Corporate Programme, your primary role will be developing resources to support investors’ assessment of climate risks and engagement activities. This involves distilling complex financial, technological and climate information into outputs suitable for an investor audience, reflecting both investors’ existing commitments and best practice in other frameworks. A key element of this will be supporting the expansion of IIGCC’s work on physical risk by developing resources to support investor engagement on this topic.

Additionally, the role involves contributing to the broader climate and nature related work of the Transition Research team and the wider engagement activities of the Corporate Programme.

While this role is initially offered on a fixed‑term basis for 12 months, we hope that the contract can be extended subject to resources.

• Developing guidance to support engagement on physical risk: To better manage the financial risks (and opportunities) across their portfolios, many of our members are increasingly focusing on understanding the physical risks posed by climate change. Building on the success of its Climate Resilience Investment Framework (CRIF) and as stewards of the Physical Climate Risk Appraisal Methodology (PCRAM), IIGCC is looking to support investor engagement with companies across multiple sectors on this topic.
  
  This work will seek to integrate physical risk into IIGCC’s existing resources and engagement activities (Climate Action 100+, Bank Engagement and Research Initiative, Nature Action 100 and the Net Zero Engagement Initiative) helping investors identify and ultimately address areas where these risks are most acute.
• Supporting guidance publication and member adoption: Resources for our members are typically developed in consultation with them and a range of external and internal stakeholders. Establishing consensus positions on complex topics and supporting adoption requires adept communication and management skills. Ensuring all outputs are fully integrated with existing IIGCC resources will require close collaboration with colleagues across the organisation.
• Contributing to the broader work of the Transition Research team: Our Transition Research team develops resources to support investors’ assessment and engagement on both transition and nature‑related risks and opportunities.
• Assisting with the overall research needs of the Corporate Programme: Part of this role will also involve working with the broader team to support investor engagement with companies on climate, nature and physical risk topics.

• Exceptional analytical skills – the ability to understand and synthesize complex numeric and written data quickly and accurately.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills – the ability to succinctly convey technical information to non‑technical audiences.
• Motivated, flexible and positive team player with proven ability to successfully manage internal and external stakeholders.
• Proven ability to lead successful collaborative research projects into complex topics.
• Demonstrable interest and experience in climate and nature topics.
• Competency in routine IT tools including Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Power Point, etc.).
• Written and spoken fluency in English.
• Familiarity with key physical risk concepts, frameworks and complexities.
• Experience conducting physical risk assessments, implementing adaptation and resilience measures and/or familiarity with key data sources.
• Experience analysing investments, energy markets, natural systems or economics.
• Understanding of climate science and natural systems.
• Understanding of corporate emissions accounting, transition plan frameworks and target‑setting tools.
