Location: Flexible / Remote

Duration: 12 months (with possibility of extension)

Cohere Labs is the dedicated research arm of Cohere, tackling foundational questions in AI across disciplines. This role provides space to conduct rigorous, theory‑informed, and empirically grounded research on AI’s impact on the economy, labor markets, and institutions.

• Designed for economists, not engineers.
• Research‑first: time and support to write, think, and publish.
• Interdisciplinary exposure while keeping disciplinary depth.
• Direct engagement with policy and economic futures.
• Global perspective across diverse contexts.

• A PhD (or advanced PhD candidate) in Economics, Political Economy, Public Policy, or related field.
• Strong training in economic theory, econometrics, or applied micro/macro.
• Research interest in technology, innovation, labor, growth, or institutions.
• Publication record (or pipeline) in peer‑reviewed venues.
• Interest in engaging with AI systems and real‑world deployment.
• Desire to collaborate across disciplines while retaining intellectual independence.

• Connecting theory to emerging empirical realities.
• Concern for long‑term societal consequences of technological change.
• Interest in shaping conversations at academia, industry, and policy intersections.
