Kennaway ward has a vacant full‑time post for a Band 5 staff nurse. The post is 37.5 hours per week and offers flexible working hours.
We are looking for a motivated and compassionate nurse to join our team of highly skilled oncology nurses, caring for people with a diagnosis of cancer.
Kennaway ward is an 11‑bedded ward that offers chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery and palliative care. We also have an additional 3‑bedded surgical day care within the main body of the ward.

Key Responsibilities- Plan, document, deliver and evaluate evidence‑based nursing care for patients in a responsible and efficient way, in conjunction with the shift coordinator.
- Develop a greater awareness and understanding of the needs of patients with cancer and the different treatment modalities administered within the unit.
- Understand the roles and responsibilities of managing a shift under the guidance of the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse.
- Complete the first‑level assessment of the patient’s needs to understand physiological, psycho‑social, spiritual and cultural needs of patients with cancer and their families.
- Assist with teaching patients in preparation for investigations, treatment and home care.
- Be aware of side effects of any treatment in progress and adopt a problem‑solving approach to minimise adverse reactions.
- Be involved in the direct delivery of skilled specialised nursing care with supervision until competent (e.g. wound dressings, removal of drains, insertion of urinary catheters).
- Develop an awareness of protocols for patients undergoing clinical trials.
