Clinical Nurse Specialist in Inherited White Matter Disease

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a 0.5 FTE Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our highly specialist Inherited White Matter Disease service based at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. The Inherited White Matter Disorders (IWMD) Highly Specialist Service (HSS) is a new service funded by NHS England which aims to improve diagnosis and treatment of patients with inherited white matter disorders.
These are a group of rare genetic conditions that can develop at any age, from childhood to adulthood, with a range of symptoms including memory and balance problems, weakness, spasticity, continence problems and seizures. Some patients may also be affected by hearing or visual problems. The treatment of most IWMDs is symptom based and supportive, however a number of exciting clinical trials for disease‑modifying treatments are on the horizon.
The post holder will take a major role in supporting the delivery and development of UCLH's IWMD service. The post holder will work closely with all multi‑disciplinary team members and will play an important role in the continued development and delivery of high quality care, support and management for people and families. Appropriate NMC registration is required. Applicants must have a special interest and at least some relevant clinical experience in this area.
