The Role

You need to have a live NMC UK pin in order to be considered for this post.

The purpose of this role is to work within the nursing and multi‑professional team to ensure a high standard of care to dependent or highly dependent patients with one or more organ failures requiring organ support, specialist care pathways and closer nursing observation. You will competently perform the necessary technical, invasive and physical aspects of care for this defined patient group.

Critical

Care Clyde Consists Of
  • RAH: 7‑bedded Adult general ICU and a separate 12‑bedded mixed medical and surgical HDU.
  • ICU RAH is unique within GGC as it admits paediatric patients requiring intensive care for stabilisation before being transferred to a children’s hospital.
  • HDU RAH is unique within GGC that it is a mixed surgical and medical unit.
  • J Centre IRH: 2‑bedded Adult general ICU, 4‑bedded HDU and 11‑bedded CCU within the one unit.
  • J Centre is also unique within GGC as it has ICU, HDU and CCU within one unit.
Duration, Location and Working Pattern
  • This is an exciting opportunity for Registered Nurses to work in our dynamic and fast‑paced Critical Care area in the Royal Alexandra Hospital.
  • There are three full‑time, 37‑hour posts available.
  • There is also one part‑time 34.5‑hour post.
  • The shift pattern for these posts is on a rotational day & night basis.
  • Please note the salary is pro rata for part‑time hours.

Key Responsibilities
  • To assess patient needs, plan/implement and evaluate a programme of care which is evidence‑based, utilising all available resources and taking into consideration the lifestyle, gender and cultural background and ensuring involvement with the patient, family, carers and significant others.
  • Maintain patient records in line with NMC guidelines for records and record keeping.
  • Practice within the legal & ethical framework as established by the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) and national legislation to ensure patient interests and well‑being are met.
  • Work within NHS, NHS Greater Glasgow and Health & Safety Executive (HSE) legislation, policy, guidelines and procedures.
  • Empower patients to take responsibility for their health, well‑being and future lifestyle by practising in an open transparent and inclusive manner, thereby ensuring patients have the relevant information to participate in decisions about their care.
  • Contribute to the provision of an appropriate learning environment in line with NES quality placement standards and to the clinical appraisal of pre‑registration nurses.
  • Demonstrate own professional development.
  • Progress through a critical care competency‑based preceptorship programme to facilitate knowledge and skills development.
  • Support the implementation of research and clinical audit where appropriate.
  • Use patient data management system.
  • Organise own time and that of junior staff and learners.
  • Ensure effective day‑to‑day management of other resources including store supplies, pharmacy and maintenance of equipment.
Knowledge, Training, Qualifications and/or Experience Required
  • Registered Nurse at 1st or 2nd level.
  • Ability to fulfil criteria outlined in the job description.
