Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced nurse to join the Major Trauma Nurse Practitioner Team in a 0.5 WTE part‑time role.
Having senior experience in ED, ICU or surgical ward nursing will be very beneficial to compliment this role.
The post holder will coordinate the major trauma patient pathway from ED through to discharge and oversee the development and implementation of standards and protocols to underpin this.
This involves working with multidisciplinary teams across all divisions in the Trust and with colleagues in network trauma units to ensure the best possible care of patients (both adults and children) who have sustained multiple injuries.
Responsibilities- Working alongside the Major Trauma Practitioner team and wider members of the Major Trauma Team as an experienced practitioner delivering an expert nursing service within the Major Trauma Pathway.
- Performing advanced clinical assessments and tertiary surveys of trauma patients to identify and provide management for injuries.
- Effectively managing a caseload of patients/clients.
- Ensuring that patients and their families are fully informed and supported by providing clinical and social support.
- Contributing to the development of evidence‑based clinical nursing practice in line with current research and guidelines.
- Assisting in the delivery of advanced specialist nursing care for patients admitted via the Major Trauma Pathway.
- Providing specialist major trauma nursing advice and support to patients, their families and other healthcare professionals following admission and through all stages of the patient pathway.
- Performing advanced clinical skills such as the ordering of clinical imaging and independent patient assessment as necessary.
- Utilising non‑medical prescribing where qualified.
Strong leadership skills and the ability to act as a senior professional role model at all times are required.
Qualifications & ProfileExperience in senior nursing roles within ED, ICU or surgical wards, and a proven ability to work within a multidisciplinary trauma team, are essential. Candidates should be friendly, enthusiastic, dynamic, a good team player and ready for a new challenge.
About the Team and HospitalThe Major Trauma Nurse Practitioner Team is an integral part of the Major Trauma Service within the MTC and the wider South West London and Surrey Trauma Network. You will work alongside the team to provide a 7‑day service at St George’s Hospital, a leading Major Trauma Centre within the network.

The South West London and Surrey Trauma Network includes St George’s Hospital, seven acute hospitals, PCTs, ambulance services and air ambulance services, covering a population of more than 2.6 million.
