Job overview

There is a fantastic opportunity for a staff nurse with an interest in ophthalmology to work in the Corneal and External Diseases service at Moorfields Eye Hospital. This is a 12 months fixed term contract to cover Maternity Leave.

The successful candidate will join a multi‑disciplinary team that assesses and cares for patients in the Corneal and External Diseases outpatient department. They will also support the nurse‑led Corneal Cross‑linking service at the main branch of Moorfields at City Road (Oriel).

You will be expected to provide comprehensive, ongoing care and support for patients with Corneal and External Diseases conditions. You will also be responsible for ensuring that patients receive education and information and to work closely with the senior nurses and other members of the multi-disciplinary team.

The successful candidate will be required to be flexible, enthusiastic, and committed to bringing the highest level of nursing care to patients in line with the Quality Agenda of the NHS and the Moorfields Nursing Strategy. You should be able to demonstrate good planning, organisation, and leadership skills.

Experienced mentors are assigned to all new staff and there are excellent opportunities for continuing professional development.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is responsible for the assessment and management of care needs of patients in the Corneal and External Diseases service. They will assess patients and implement and evaluate care provision.

The post holder will act as a co‑ordinator in the outpatient clinics ensuring patients are seen and assessed by all members of the multidisciplinary team. They will also supervise junior members of staff and students.

The post holder will be a key member of staff in participating in the development of care of patients attending the Corneal and External Diseases service. They will be working independently/autonomously and are accountable for their own professional actions. They are responsible for ensuring the safety and well‑being of service users, and always working in a manner that promotes the dignity and human rights of patients and clients.
