Overview
Applications are invited for a Kidney Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to join our well-established nursing team. This full-time position has become available for a dynamic and motivated CNS to deliver specialist kidney cancer nursing to patients under the care of the specialist kidney cancer centre. The appointee will play a key role in delivering world-class care for patients undergoing surgery for kidney cancer and benign disease, working with the existing clinical team to provide excellent clinical care and education.
This post will also cover surgical care for patients with benign kidney disease.
This is an outstanding opportunity for a highly motivated individual with an interest in Surgical Kidney Cancer Nursing. You will have a strong clinical background in urology/surgical nursing; experience of working with surgery or cancer patients would be desirable. You will work closely with the Lead Nurse for Renal Cancer and the experienced CNS team who will support you to deliver expert nursing care.

- Facilitate the provision of high-quality specialist nursing care to patients with kidney cancers and benign disease throughout the patient s surgical pathway.
- Provide advice, counselling & supportive care to patients & their families.
- Ensure patients are fully diagnosed and counselled regarding treatment and deliver ongoing care following treatment, in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary teams in acute care and in close liaison with Primary Care providers.
- Liaise appropriately with all key members of the multi-disciplinary team and service users related to kidney cancer as part of the specialist kidney cancer service.
- Liaise with peers across the Trust, the directorate management team and appropriate corporate directorates & teams.
- Collaborate with the Lead Nurse for Renal Cancer and the CNS team to support development of the specialist nursing service.
- Strong clinical background in urology/surgical nursing.
- Experience of working with surgery or cancer patients would be desirable.
- Ability to work with senior clinical staff and contribute to education and service improvement initiatives.
The RFL Specialist Centre for Kidney Cancer was commissioned in July 2019. It is located at Royal Free Hospital and serves the population of North Central and North-East London, as well as referrals from Wales. It is currently the largest surgical centre for kidney cancer in Europe.
