Junior Clinical Nurse Specialist - Skin Cancer

The closing date is 08 February 2026

Following a recent promotion we are seeking a motivated and compassionate Macmillan Junior Clinical Nurse Specialist in Skin Cancer to join the Surgical Directorate across St George's University Hospital trust. This Band 6 role offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced registered nurse to develop specialist expertise in melanoma and skin cancer care while working within a highly skilled multidisciplinary team.

The post holder will play a key role in delivering high-quality, person-centred care to patients from diagnosis through treatment, follow-up and, where appropriate, palliative and end-of-life care. Acting as an Associate Key Worker under the supervision of the Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist, the role combines autonomous clinical practice with education, service development and leadership, in line with Macmillan values and the Trust's commitment to excellence, kindness, responsibility and respect.

Main

duties of the job

The Macmillan Junior Clinical Nurse Specialist provides specialist, high-quality nursing care to patients with melanoma and other skin cancers from diagnosis through treatment, follow-up and, where appropriate, palliative care. Working autonomously and as a core member of the multidisciplinary team, the post holder manages a defined caseload under the supervision of the Band 7 CNS, ensuring patients and their families receive holistic, personalised care, information and support.

Key duties include undertaking comprehensive and holistic needs assessments, care planning and evaluation; running nurse-led follow-up and telephone clinics; supporting patients undergoing surgery and systemic treatments; and acting as a patient advocate to promote informed choice. The role involves close liaison with surgeons, oncologists, dermatologists, ward and outpatient teams, community services and Macmillan services to ensure seamless, coordinated care across the patient pathway.

The post holder contributes to MDT meetings, maintains accurate clinical documentation and mandatory datasets, supports discharge planning, and ensures care is evidence-based and aligned with local and national guidelines. Education is central to the role, including teaching and supporting patients, carers, ward nurses and students.

The CNS also participates in audit, research and service evaluation, demonstrates leadership through role modelling best practice.
