Job Summary

The Royal London Hospital Endoscopy Unit is looking for a dynamic and forward thinking band 6 Junior Sister / Charge Nurse to join the existing team of junior management.

We seek individuals with a commitment to endoscopy, excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a large team. Flexibility, approachability, and a positive attitude are essential, reflecting the ethos of the centre.

We are a friendly department within a purpose‑built centre with five endoscopy rooms and a 17‑bedded recovery area with step‑down facilities. Our dedicated team of nurses practices team nursing and rotates through all areas of the department.

We undertake all endoscopy procedures including ERCP, Spyglass, ESD, EUS, EBUS, capsule endoscopy and bowel cancer screening, as well as straight‑to‑test endoscopy. The unit is currently open from 08:00 to 19:00hrs.

Our schedule includes a six‑day working rota.

Main duties of the job

The provision of a high standard of individualized, holistic patient care to all patients attending the endoscopy unit; assist with procedures and work as part of a large multidisciplinary team.

Co‑ordinating the unit on a regular basis. Supervising own team, providing appraisal, teaching and support.

Qualifications (Essential)

  • Experience in managing endoscopy lists.
  • Relevant previous ward experience.

  • Previous band 6 in endoscopy experience.
Skills
  • Able to assist all endoscopic procedures, including colonoscopy, gastroscopy, bronchoscopy, ERCP, endoscopic ultrasound.
  • Independent with all these procedures.
  • Use of lifting solution, glue, dye spray.
  • Ability to cannulate.
  • Ability to work within set time frames working to priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to monitor the quality of own work and that of team members.
  • Able to recognise own limits and work within competence limits.
  • Ability to use and maintain resources efficiently and effectively and encourage others to do so.
  • Ability to demonstrate enthusiasm towards teaching and sharing knowledge.
