We are looking for an inspirational cancer nurse committed to delivering excellent patient care to Head and Neck and Thyroid Cancer patients for a substantive Band 7 CNS post at UCLH.
UCLH is the specialist surgery centre for head and neck surgery and an active oncology team. You will be part of the Head and Neck and Thyroid Clinical Nurse Specialist team, led by the Lead CNS, comprising Macmillan CNSs, an Enhanced Recovery CNS and a Macmillan Cancer Support Worker.
Main duties of the jobThe Head & Neck & Thyroid Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist will provide holistic care and support to patients and families, acting as the key worker and advocate throughout the cancer journey.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing specialist nursing advice and care from suspected cancer through diagnosis and multimodality treatment.
- Participating in multidisciplinary team decision making and service development.
- Managing altered airway, complex wounds, enteral feeding and other clinical challenges.
- Teaching and education for patients, carers and staff.

Person Specification Knowledge and Qualifications- Registered Nurse Part 1 or 2
- Relevant nursing degree (oncology or surgery)
- Teaching/Education module
- Studied at MSc level or working towards an MSc award
- Advanced communication skills
- Postgraduate Level 6/7 module in head and neck cancer/thyroid
- 5 years post qualification within ENT, oncology ward or endocrine experience
- 2 years at Band 6 level
- Previous H&N CNS role or equivalent (e.g., CNS / NP)
- Altered airway skills
- Complex wound management
- Enteral feeding, NG insertion
- Teaching and education for patients and carers
- Communicates effectively verbally, in writing, and electronically
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Commitment to maintaining own fitness to practice
- Evidence of applying research to practice
- Experience in developing standards, guidelines and policy, audit and service evaluation
- Familiar with Trust policies and guidance on infection prevention and control
- Completes required training (e-learning and face to face)
- Includes infection prevention and control in continuous development and annual appraisal
- Take personal responsibility to embed effective prevention and control practices
- Demonstrable understanding of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and NHS obligations

Salary: £56,276 to £63,176 per annum, inclusive of HCAS.
