Staff Nurse - Ward

Overview

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

The shift pattern for this post is 37 hours per week, consisting of days, nights and weekends. Please be advised that, effective 1 April 2026, the full-time working hours for all Agenda for Change posts will be reduced to 36 hours.

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic band 5 Registered Nurse to join our surgical nursing team. This will be based in ward 24, a 30 bedded ward within the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

• Assess, deliver and supervise all care needs within the ward environment.
• Possess sound clinical skills for assessment of patients’ needs, implementation and evaluation of care which are evidence based.
• Work in a fast-paced environment to a high clinical standard. Be forward thinking, flexible and able to work effectively within a changing and dynamic environment.
• Opportunity to expand skills and knowledge across a diverse range of surgical patients; the team will guide and support you whether you are newly qualified or new to the ward/department, facilitating learning and education development.
• As part of the multidisciplinary team, be responsible for assessment of care needs and the development of a programme of care, and the implementation and evaluation of these programmes to ensure delivery of high quality care in the ward environment.
• Be able to work on your own initiative, without direct supervision, but also as part of the integrated team. Work within a flexible shift pattern of both day and night rotations and weekend working.

• Excellent communication skills and decision making with evidence of ongoing professional development.
• Essential that you are currently a Registered Nurse with the NMC.
• You need to have a live NMC UK pin in order to be considered for this post.
