Staff Nurse - Emergency Department

The closing date is 30 January 2026

Please note this vacancy will close early if a high volume of applications is received.

The Emergency Department (ED) is one of the busiest in London. Alongside a co‑located Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC), it sees approximately 135,000 patients per year, including nearly 30,000 children and young people. As a Major Trauma Centre (MTC) for South East London and Kent, the ED receives patients from two ambulance services and two air ambulance providers. It is one of the few centres in London to have its own designated helipad, which is operational 24 hours a day to receive trauma patients.

ED is also a regional centre for Hyper‑Acute Stroke, the Institute of Liver Studies, and primary angioplasty. It features a 10‑bedded resuscitation area with a nursing ratio of 2:1. We care for patients from a diverse inner‑city population, and we are proud that the diversity of our community is reflected in both our staff and our recruitment strategy.

We are currently recruiting a dedicated and enthusiastic Staff Nurse. We are seeking a motivated and innovative nurse with strong clinical knowledge and skills, excellent communication abilities, and a demonstrated suitability for the position. You will need to be flexible, enthusiastic, and passionate about emergency care.

Main duties of the job
  • To be a safe and effective practitioner able to provide high quality nursing care to patients and support to relatives.
  • To work with support, within a multi‑disciplinary team to provide continuing care to a specified group of patients from admission to discharge.
  • To supervise and teach junior members of staff and learners as appropriate.
  • To maintain own personal development with support.
