Band 5 Part Time Staff Nurse​/ODP -Tower Nuffield & Lambeth Theatres

We are looking for two part‑time Band 5 Staff Nurse/ODP positions (28.5 hours and 7.5 hours per week) to work in Tower, Nuffield and Lambeth theatres, including recovery, admissions, ambulatory and discharge lounges. The post holder will assess peri‑operative care needs, plan and evaluate programmes of care without direct supervision, and play a key role in developing practice within the unit.

Responsibilities include:

• Admit surgical patients
• Scrub/Circulate in operating theatres
• Recover post‑operative patients
• Participate in internal rotation programmes to enable multi‑skilled working
• Work with the multidisciplinary team in the ambulatory and post‑operative lounge
• Co‑ordinate theatre lists and departmental duties
• Support Trust initiatives such as Quality Improvement and Audit
• Recognise and avoid situations detrimental to patient health and wellbeing
• Carry out comprehensive assessment of a person’s nursing requirements
• Ensure all patients have a safe and appropriate discharge plan
• Carry out nursing procedures and treatments, maintaining the highest possible standards
• Take a clear and concise history from patients, complete documentation accurately and legibly, and maintain information systems
• Undertake physical observations (blood pressure, temperature, respiration, blood sugars, urinalysis, weight, height) and report exceptions appropriately
• Administer prescribed medication, including transfusion of blood and blood products
• Monitor and maintain excellent clinical standards and staff development as part of the theatre team
• Perform tasks of scrub assistant following national / theatre policy checks and procedures
• Assist as scrub and/or anaesthetic assistant and support other multidisciplinary team members
• Provide safe care throughout the patient journey from admission through theatres, recovery and discharge
• Provide clinical cover for any area as appropriate to knowledge and training
• Act as mentor to junior staff and support their continuing professional development and overall performance
• Carry out all relevant documentation without direct supervision and demonstrate procedures that support safe patient care
