Overview
Senior Dental Nurse role at NHS – fixed term for 10 months to cover maternity leave. Based at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, London.
Hours:
9:00am to 5:30pm with an hour for lunch. The post will be a split of 80% clinical and 20% administrative work. Registration with the GDC is mandatory. Band 5 role details and salary are listed in the Details section.
The Royal London Dental Hospital at Barts Health is a leading specialist hospital for dental and oral health care. This role involves working within the undergraduate department, providing nursing support to undergraduate students, and working alongside a multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities- To support and assist the Dental Nurse Manager in the day-to-day delivery of high-quality service provision within the department, including deputising for the Dental Nurse Manager in their absence.
- Ensure the department is run efficiently and effectively and that all departmental needs are met.
- Provide high-quality chairside support to all clinicians and ensure that nursing care meets high standards in line with Trust policies and procedures.
- Support the Dental Nurse Manager in ensuring that Qualified Dental Nurses and Student Dental Nurses undertake structured departmental practical training and Continuing Professional Development in line with current training curriculums and legislation.
- Provide direct line management to band 4 nurses including sickness management, annual leave, appraisal, performance management and day-to-day welfare management.
- Carry out witness training and support trainees with their Record of Experience.
- Develop in-depth knowledge of the department’s specialism and champion service improvement for the clinical area.
- Take responsibility for designated areas of clinical operations and other areas of activity as required.
- Provide support to the dental nurse managers in the recruitment process.
- Conduct infection control audits for the clinical area and act on findings; carry out and upload hand hygiene audits.
- Act as first line contact for patients’ complaints as necessary.
- Essential
: NEBDN and/or an appropriate professional qualification or equivalent;
General Dental Council registration. - Desirable
:
Post Qualification Certificate.
- Post-qualification experience in dental nursing.
- Ability to work as part of a team with a professional approach toward work and colleagues.
- Previous experience of working in a hospital setting.
- Experience with clinical activities appropriate to the department; maintaining stock levels and ordering where appropriate.
- Desirable: supervision and mentoring of dental nurses and trainee dental nurses; participation in recruitment and selection of dental nurses.
- Ability to work under pressure and prioritise care.
- Excellent leadership and organizational skills.
- Ability to monitor the quality of own and others’ work.
- Ability to identify and manage potential risks in work activities and processes for self and others.
