Clinical Nurse Specialist – Gastroenterology Service

Join to apply for the Clinical Nurse Specialist – Gastroenterology Service role at NHS Ayrshire & Arran

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non‑clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

The shift pattern for this post is 8:30 AM‑4:30 PM, consisting of 30 hours per week. Please note the salary is pro rata for part‑time hours. You need to have a live NMC UK pin in order to be considered for this post. The Gastroenterology service, Clyde Sector of NHS GGC is recruiting a Band 6 for 30 hours per week as IBD Clinical Nurse Specialist.

The post holder will be based at IRH & RAH sites, whilst providing and contributing to the development of the existing IBD and Gastroenterology Service which encompasses all three Clyde hospitals. The post holder will predominantly work as an IBD clinical nurse specialist within a variety of hospital settings including medical and surgical inpatients, outpatients and endoscopy. The post holder will be responsible for delivering nurse‑led clinics to provide patient education, treatment and support to patients.

The post holder will be expected to develop skills aligned with clinical assessment and triage.

We are looking for an experienced, highly motivated and enthusiastic registered nurse with excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Following training, the post holder will be able to work autonomously, whilst prioritising their own workload and contributing to the existing Gastroenterology nursing teams. You will be required to maintain and develop relationships with a wide range of internal and external contacts.

You must have a flexible and organised approach and display a passion to deliver quality patient‑centred care. Participation in multidisciplinary team meetings and staff training is expected. The role is primarily focused on treatment response, advanced therapy education and screening, IBD‑related cancer surveillance and managing disease relapses.

The role occasionally requires you to work with patients’ relatives and primary care healthcare teams in order to promote early recognition of disease relapse, prompt management and to prevent the need for unnecessary admission/readmission to hospital. Full induction and training will be facilitated by the existing team. On‑going support and professional development will be provided. This is an excellent opportunity for role development.

Essential
  • First Level Registered Nurse with current NMC registration and minimum 5 years post‑registration experience.
  • Significant experience with a gastroenterology setting or medical setting.
  • Ability to fulfil criteria outlined in the job description.
  • Certificate in intravenous cannulation, intravenous drug administration and venepuncture.
  • Degree educated.
  • IT competent (desirable).
  • Ability to demonstrate working at advanced practice level.
  • NMC qualification as a non‑medical prescriber.
