An exciting opportunity has arisen within the special school nursing team in Barking and Dagenham for a Band 6 Specialist School Nurse. We are progressive in B&D developing partnership working across the Children's Service to ensure we are able to signpost children to available resources within the borough. Our vision for delivering the Healthy Child Programme, in partnership with key stakeholders is to ensure that every child in B&D has the very best start in life and grows up to be happy, safe, healthy, confident, resilient, to ensure inclusivity of all needs.

Responsibilities
  • Being responsible for organising your own workload whilst supporting the team with the day to day allocation of work.
  • Supporting children in school with health needs; delivering training, supporting School staff in managing the children's health needs, completing care plans for children requiring emergency or routine medical intervention whilst in school.
  • Having a close working relationship with the wider multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Act as a mentor and support to junior staff/students.
  • Being an advocate for the Children/Young People when there are safeguarding concerns.
  • Supporting with Paediatric clinics.
  • Completing Looked After Children yearly review health assessments.
  • Ensuring new starter assessments are completed prior to new students starting school.
  • Undertaking growth reviews for Children.
  • Ensuring School staff have a good understanding of relevant health related training and interventions.
Qualities and Experience
  • Nursing degree
  • Evidence of working with CYP with additional needs
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to travel across the borough

Induction and Probation

All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. The induction will also include the opportunity to meet the executive team, senior managers, and attend a number of drop‑in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes.

The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

This post will be subject to a probationary period.

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary with a minimum payment of £4,714 and a maximum payment of £5,941 – per annum (pro rata).
