There has never been a more exciting time to join the Georgian Group, as we approach our 90th anniversary in 2027 and embark on ambitious plans to reinvigorate our membership and increase philanthropic giving ahead of this milestone year.
Purpose of the RoleThis is a new role for an experienced fundraising professional who will increase our philanthropic income and deepen our relationships with supporters. You will lead The Georgian Group’s fundraising and membership development, strengthening relationships with donors, members, and supporters to secure income for the charity’s conservation and campaigning work. This role combines strategic development of philanthropic giving with oversight of the Group’s membership programme and engagement activities.
The Group has a loyal membership base which has plateaued in recent years; new fundraising impetus is needed to revitalise the scheme, encourage additional charitable donations from existing supporters, and drive membership recruitment (especially among under 35s - our fastest-growing membership category). The role is supported by a Membership and Office Administrator.
- Develop and deliver the charity’s fundraising strategy, including membership growth and income from individual member giving, major donors, legacies, Trusts/Foundations, and corporate partnerships
- Support the Director with the development and growth of the higher-level Supporters’ Circle
- Identify and develop Trusts and Foundations who might support our work
- Develop and manage campaigns, appeals, events, and digital communications that strengthen donor relationships and drive income
- Build personal relationships with high-potential donors
- Align philanthropic messaging with the Group’s charitable objectives and values
- Monitor progress through clear KPIs and provide regular performance reporting to the Director and the Group’s Executive Committee of Trustees
- Prepare compelling funding proposals and stewardship reports
- Manage legacy promotion and donor recognition activities
- Work with the Director and Trustees to build networks and support fundraising events
- Design and deliver a multi-year strategy to grow membership and membership giving, with a focus on significantly increasing membership number and membership contributions within a defined timeframe
- Oversee the membership programme (recruitment, retention, renewals) including supervision of the Membership Administrator on these essential tasks
- Shape the membership offer and supporter journey and explore new models e.g digital subscriptions that may appeal to younger prospective members
- Support annual members’ visits (nationwide) as part of member cultivation (c.10 per year)
- Work with the Director to devise and organise a series of high-level Supporters Circle events annually (c. 3 per year)
- Maintain and develop the CRM system (Blackbaud eTapestry) in line with fundraising best practice and UK GDPR, and ensure fundraising is ethical, inclusive and legally compliant
- Monitor and report on income targets and membership performance.
- Ensure GDPR, Gift Aid, and fundraising regulation compliance
- Results-driven, with a proven track record in fundraising or philanthropy development, ideally within a membership organisation
- Demonstrable success in growing income from individual donors, including designing and delivering donor acquisition and retention strategies
- Strong experience in project management, with good operational and planning skills and the confidence to co-ordinate the work of others
- Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to craft compelling messages
