Scope

of the Role

The Engagement and Outreach Officer will play a key role in expanding My Life My Say’s reach and ensuring strong attendance and participation across our programmes, particularly commissioned Democracy Cafés. This role will focus on building relationships, recruiting young people, coordinating outreach activity, and supporting high quality delivery, while freeing up capacity for strategic development and innovation within the Engagement team.

You will be the bridge between strategy and delivery, ensuring our work reaches diverse young people across the UK and that every engagement feels accessible, welcoming, and youth led.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead outreach, communications and recruitment activity for Democracy Cafés, commissioned events, and wider MLMS programmes
  • Build and maintain relationships with schools, colleges, universities, youth organisations, community groups, and local partners
  • Develop targeted outreach approaches to engage underrepresented and marginalised young people
  • Coordinate attendee recruitment and registrations, ensuring strong turnout and diversity at events
  • Support the planning and delivery of Democracy Cafés and other engagement activities, both in person and online
  • Act as a key on the ground presence at events, ensuring a positive experience for young people and partners
  • Work closely with partners and corporate commissioners to meet delivery expectations and timelines
General Engagement Support
  • Support the creation and distribution of promotional content for events, working with the social media team where needed
  • Use digital platforms, networks, and grassroots approaches to promote opportunities and increase participation
  • Capture stories, feedback, and insights from young people to support learning and impact reporting
  • Track outreach activity, attendance, and engagement data
  • Support post event feedback collection and reflection with young people and partners
  • Share learning with the Engagement and Impact Lead to inform future strategy and innovation
Collaboration and Culture
  • Work closely with the Engagement and Impact Lead to balance delivery with longer term planning
  • Collaborate with the Squad programme, volunteers, and young leaders to support delivery and peer led engagement
  • Champion MLMS values and a youth led, inclusive approach across all work
Personal Specification
  • Experience engaging young people or communities through outreach, engagement, or events
  • Experience working in a charity, youth, or social impact organisation
  • Strong relationship building skills and confidence working with external partners
  • Excellent communication skills and a people centred approach
  • Organised, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple priorities
  • Commitment to youth voice, inclusion, and non partisan democratic engagement
  • Willingness to travel across the UK and work occasional evenings or weekends
  • High level of discretion and professionalism
  • Confident using tools like Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Zoom, etc
  • Excellent critical thinking skills and the ability to exercise good judgement and solve problems quickly and effectively
  • Able to multitask and remain calm under pressure in a live event environment
  • Passion for youth participation, democracy, and social justice
  • Confident speaking publicly and engaging in conversations
  • Experience working on political, youth-led, or community engagement campaigns
  • Self-motivation and enthusiasm
