Job Description
Your TeamYou will be joining the Marketing team with a focus on Engagement, a creative and results-driven group focused on building deep connections with our audience. We sit at the heart of the Sun’s digital ecosystem, working to turn occasional readers into loyal, daily visitors through innovative content journeys and membership propositions.
Your RoleThe Engagement Lead is responsible for driving audience engagement and habit-building behaviours across the Sun’s digital ecosystem with particular focus on the membership proposition. Working closely with the Head of Retention, CRM, Editorial, and Product teams, you’ll focus on increasing active usage, time spent, and product interaction across the customer lifecycle.
Day to day you will:- Develop and own an audience engagement strategy across the customer lifecycle.
- Identify and optimise user behaviours that signal long-term loyalty – e.g., frequency, depth of content consumption, feature usage.
- Plan and execute engagement campaigns and journeys that drive habitual use.
- Collaborate cross team to surface high-performing content that supports engagement KPIs.
- Lead strategy and delivery of engagement-focused communications across multiple channels.
- Work with data analysts to understand engagement trends and identify segments at risk of drop-off, leveraging customer segmentation to drive strategies.
- Develop and test on‑site and in‑app engagement mechanics in partnership with Product – e.g., streaks, custom feeds, gamification, alerts.
- Feed insights into retention strategy by mapping engagement as a precursor to churn or loyalty.
- Own and report on engagement metrics, providing insight and recommendations to wider stakeholders.
- Proven experience in audience engagement, digital marketing, or content-driven growth roles.
- Strong understanding of behavioural marketing, audience segmentation, and habit formation.
- Experience working in media, news, publishing, or digital content environments is a plus.
- Familiarity with CRM, analytics, and personalisation platforms (e.g., Braze, Google Analytics, Amplitude).
- Ability to translate content and UX into marketing and engagement opportunities.
- Creative thinker with a data-informed mindset.
