🕒 12-month FTC (with view to permanent)
Amber Labs is supporting a major organisation within the energy sector on a platform reliability and architecture improvement programme. We’re looking for a Technical Architect with a strong Microsoft background to review, challenge and strengthen an existing Azure-based microservices ecosystem.
The platform consists of approximately 60 microservices built across Python, Java and .NET. Some services are operating effectively; others require improvement from a resilience, scalability and reliability perspective. This role is focused on analysing architecture already in progress, identifying weaknesses or anti-patterns, and providing clear, practical recommendations to improve overall service robustness.
Working in a time-boxed manner across 1–2 services at a time, you will:
- Review existing service design and implementation patterns
- Assess reliability, performance and fault tolerance
- Identify risks, inefficiencies and architectural gaps
- Recommend improvements aligned to modern microservices and Azure best practice
- Partner with engineering teams to guide uplift and embed stronger standards
We’re looking for someone with:
- Proven experience improving resilient, distributed systems in live environments
- Deep understanding of microservices patterns and reliability engineering principles
- Development background in Python, Java and/or .NET
- The confidence to challenge constructively and influence engineering teams
This is a hands‑on Technical Architect role suited to someone who enjoys improving existing systems rather than designing purely greenfield solutions. The initial engagement is a 12‑month fixed term contract with a clear opportunity to move into a permanent role.
If this sounds aligned, please apply and we will reach out to discuss further.
