Overview

The Deputy Mechanical Manager is a pivotal leadership role within Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust, responsible for overseeing the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of mechanical systems across the estate. The postholder will lead the mechanical maintenance team, ensuring all planned and reactive works are delivered in accordance with statutory requirements, NHS HTM standards, and Trust policies. This role demands a strong technical background in mechanical engineering, with responsibility for managing high-risk systems, ensuring Safe Systems of Work, and maintaining compliance with relevant regulations.

The Mechanical Manager will also be accountable for the performance of Planned Preventative Maintenance systems -- ensuring accurate scheduling, monitoring, and reporting of maintenance activities.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the mechanical maintenance team to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient operation of mechanical systems across the estate.
  • Deliver planned and reactive works in accordance with statutory requirements, NHS HTM standards, and Trust policies.
  • Maintain Safe Systems of Work and manage high-risk mechanical systems in compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Monitor and report on the performance of Planned Preventative Maintenance systems, including scheduling, monitoring, and reporting of maintenance activities.
  • Identify and mitigate risks affecting the Trust's reputation, security, safety, and financial sustainability.
  • Ensure compliance with HTMs and NHS guidance; maintain up-to-date compliance records and documentation for inspection readiness.
  • Contribute to the development and review of policies and protocols to support regulatory compliance; implement continuous improvement of quality control systems.

Job responsibilities

Identify and mitigate risks affecting the Trusts reputation, security, safety, and financial sustainability.

Ensure compliance with Health Technical Memoranda (HTMs) and NHS guidance.

Ensure quality control systems are in place and continuously improved.

Contribute to the development and review of policies and protocols to support regulatory compliance.

Monitor and report on compliance performance, identifying trends and areas for improvement.

Maintain up-to-date compliance records and documentation for inspection readiness.

Person Specification Education
  • Bachelor s Degree (or equivalent qualification or experience) in Hard FM, Estates Management, Engineering, or Compliance
  • Registered with a recognised professional body (e.g., IWFM, CIBSE, IOSH, NEBOSH).
