As a Maintenance Operative your primary responsibility is to ensure our facilities remain fully functional. You will maintain buildings and equipment, comply with Bupa Standard Operating Procedures, relevant legislation and industry best practices, and uphold our cultural and brand values.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure all health and safety and compliance checks are carried out using Bupa digital systems as directed by SOPs.
- Act on and close any tasks assigned by the Maintenance Manager or the home via Bupa compliance tools.
- Maintain safety and cleanliness within the care home and grounds in line with Environmental Health, Fire Authority, Legionella Risk Assessment and Health & Safety regulations.
- Complete all necessary maintenance and repair tasks to a high standard, in a timely manner, and offer value for money while maintaining first‑impression standards.
- Document and act upon residents’ preferences regarding their personal space.
- Report defects, obtain quotes and manage repairs with Bupa‑approved contractors, following SOPs.
- Report irreparable defects to Home Manager or Property/Maintenance Manager as appropriate.
- Manage Care Home elements of refurbishment and CAPEX programmes, ensuring minimal disruption to residents, visitors and staff.
- Ensure tools and equipment are maintained and safely secured at all times.
- Assist with induction of new colleagues on emergency exits, fire points and evacuation procedures, keeping records of instructions.
- Provide maintenance support to local care homes within a reasonable distance (maximum 1 hr travel) as required.
- Good understanding of building services: heating, hot and cold‑water distribution, ventilation, electrical distribution, plumbing.
- Sound knowledge of building fabric and its maintenance.
- Practical experience of planned maintenance systems and record keeping.
- Knowledge of statutory requirements and experience in compliance.
- A full driving licence.
- A building/electrical/plumbing qualification (City & Guilds, BTEC, ONC, HNC, etc.) or minimum 3 years hands‑on experience in property maintenance.
- Ability to work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team.
- Computer literacy.
- Good customer service skills.
- Flexibility to meet changing demands within the care home.
- Practical ability and experience in painting and decorating.
