As the Dental Engineering Maintenance Specialist, you will contribute to the safe and reliable operation of dental equipment used across one of the largest and most complex dental services in the UK. Working under the guidance of the Specialist Dental Equipment Engineer, you will carry out planned and reactive maintenance, support fault-finding, and help ensure that clinical teams have access to equipment that performs safely and consistently.

This role is essential in supporting high-quality patient care and service continuity across Dental Services.

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance, safety checks and basic calibration tasks on dental chairs, suction systems, compressors and associated clinical equipment.
  • Undertake first-line reactive maintenance, fault-finding and repairs, escalating complex issues where required.
  • Maintain accurate engineering and maintenance records in line with Trust policies, regulatory standards and equipment inventory procedures.
  • Support equipment acceptance, installation activities and routine performance verification under the direction of the Specialist Engineer.
  • Liaise with dental clinical teams, MEMS, Procurement and external contractors to support safe and efficient operation of equipment.
  • Assist with stock management of spare parts, consumables and workshop materials.
  • Contribute to equipment-related projects, audits and service improvement activity as required.
  • Work flexibly across sites and support occasional out-of-hours or weekend work to meet service needs.

Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust hosts one of the UK’s largest and most respected dental services, delivering specialist and tertiary care across a wide range of dental subspecialties. The service operates within a clinically demanding environment and is supported by strong academic links with King’s College London.

The Dental Maintenance team plays a crucial role in ensuring that clinical areas have safe, functional and reliable equipment at all times. The team works across multiple sites, using well-equipped workshop facilities and collaborating closely with colleagues in Medical Physics, Clinical Engineering, MEMS and Procurement. You will be joining a team committed to patient safety, technical excellence and continuous improvement, with a strong emphasis on teamwork and professional development.

The Dental Engineering Maintenance Specialist is responsible for delivering high-quality planned and reactive maintenance on a wide range of dental equipment. This includes carrying out routine servicing, safety checks, basic calibration tasks and first-line diagnostics under the supervision of the Specialist Dental Equipment Engineer. The post holder will help ensure equipment operates safely and reliably, identify faults or deterioration, and take timely action to support uninterrupted clinical activity.

The role includes supporting maintenance arrangements for specific equipment types, maintaining accurate records, and assisting with performance verification, acceptance testing and commissioning activities. The post holder will work closely with dental clinical teams and external contractors to ensure timely escalation and resolution of issues, maintaining clear communication and strong working relationships.

In addition, the post holder will contribute to equipment-related projects, audits, service improvement activity and the upkeep of workshop areas, tools and spare parts. The role may involve assisting with medical device alerts, documentation updates and routine asset verification. The post holder will follow Trust policies, regulatory standards, health and safety procedures and infection control requirements at all times.

Flexibility is required to support a busy clinical environment, including occasional out-of-hours or weekend work. The role is essential in ensuring safe engineering practice, supporting patient care and maintaining high levels of equipment availability across Dental Services.
