Controller, Supply Chain​/Logistics, Dispatcher

We are currently recruiting for a Controller to work at our Southampton Port who will be responsible for monitoring and directing the marine and landside movements of containers and vehicles throughout the Terminal from point of arrival to point of departure so as to ensure operations requirements of the shift are met, following directions of the Control Supervisor/Team Leader and in accordance with the company standards, policies and procedures.

• Control the shipside movement of containers from quay cranes to the stack and from the stack to the quay cranes.
• Control the movement of containers to and from quay cranes to the pinning station(s)/stack to ensure there are no bottle necks
• Ensure straddle allocation is assigned to the correct area which is in demand
• Control the landside operations associated with containers stacked on the terminal or arriving and departing via the pre gate and/or Freightliner.
• Monitor breakdowns associated with straddles, sprinters and empty handlers on the terminal by liaising with engineering staff and ensuring clear and full descriptions for first line diagnosis of mechanical faults.
• Liaise with Planners to ensure that operations proceed to schedule in the most efficient manner.
• Work closely with other operational staff to meet the operational requirements of their shift.
• Communicate with operators of the Straddle Carriers though voice radio in conjunction with Radio Data Transfer (RDT) of information on the terminals various operating systems, answering all incoming calls from operators of Straddle Carriers accurately and promptly resolving attendant problems.
• Have an accurate and up to date knowledge of the working position of each Straddle Carrier driver.
• Liaise closely with the control supervisor ensuring the trading impact of any problem is efficiently minimized.
• Accurately and speedily interpret written and verbal instruction and apply it to the working ZODIAC OPS system.
• Ensure an effective and thorough handover at the start, break and end of shift.
• Complete detailed reporting for the shift to ensure accurate post shift reports can be produced
• Have a thorough knowledge of the Company’s operating procedures for control and terminal.
• Ensure that a safe and healthy work environment exists, by adhering to company health, safety and environment policies, to achieve full compliance with the relevant legislation.

• Computer literate, required to use ZODIAC OPS / N4 and other in-house terminal operating systems
• Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to work under sustained pressure in a noisy environment.
• Ability to organise and prioritise jobs, whilst under pressure in order to meet operational deadlines.
• Good people management skills
• Good organisational skills with attention to detail
• Flexible approach and willingness to be involved in a variety of tasks.
• A sound understanding of Operational activities, including safe working practices.
• Knowledge of Terminal layout and procedures.
• Excellent concentration skills
