Corporate Counsel (Commercial Sales)

Location: London

We work within the Legal Department, which is composed of lawyers, paralegals, and specialists committed to the professional growth and career development of our team.

Our Commercial Sales Legal Counsel will be a business partner to the Elsevier Academic, Government, and Corporate Sales teams in North America with some support to our Latin American region. You will provide legal support and guidance to our Sales teams, working closely with contract managers and sales support teams, and will be part of the Elsevier Legal team reporting to the General Counsel EMEA/APAC/LA.

Legal support has a strong focus on commercial transactions, interacting directly with our customers. You will also help deliver training, projects and initiatives to our organization, acting as a trusted business partner.

• Providing support on transactional matters including legal advice, contract negotiation and drafting.
• Deliver best‑in‑practice professional legal services aligned with the strategic drivers of the business, ensuring significant impact.
• Building relationships to become a trusted business partner, including stakeholder management.
• Acting as a role model in the team, actively endorsing operating principles such as teamwork, collaboration, change and open communication in an international environment.

• 7 to 10+ years of in‑house legal experience, preferably with experience working at a law firm.
• Experience working in an internationalli>
• Extensive experience with United States and/or North American customers.
• Excellent academic qualifications and substantial relevant experience providing legal advice and support to businesses.
• Strong technical knowledge of relevant areas of law, ability to apply technical expertise to practical matters.
• Knowledge of IP, licensing and Software as a Service contracts.
• Capacity to communicate complex legal and commercial issues clearly and concisely, making them actionable for the business.
• Collaborative team player who demonstrates leadership qualities appropriate for a member of the Legal Department.
• Fluent Spanish and English;
  Portuguese (both writing and speaking) is preferred.
