Hybrid working – 2 days per week in Central London

A FTSE 250 business with ambitious growth plans and a strong, stable financial position is looking to appoint a Senior Legal Counsel – Privacy to join its Legal & Compliance team. This is a high-profile, hands-on role offering real ownership, exposure to senior stakeholders and the opportunity to shape the organisation’s privacy framework as the business continues to grow.

The role will suit a commercially minded lawyer with 5–10 years’ PQE who trained at a highly regarded private practice and has since gained in-house experience (this may include a secondment). You will also have responsibility for managing one junior lawyer.

Key responsibilities
  • Owning and maintaining the privacy governance framework in line with UK GDPR and related legislation
  • Advising on developments in data protection law and their practical impact on the business
  • Reviewing, negotiating and advising on vendor contracts and data processing arrangements
  • Supporting business projects to ensure privacy compliance, including advising on and monitoring DPIAs
  • Delivering privacy training and raising awareness across the organisation
  • Advising on data protection, direct marketing queries and individual rights requests and complaints
  • Line management of a Legal Counsel
About you
  • Strong data protection and privacy background, ideally with 5+ years’ relevant experience
  • Trained at a well-regarded private practice, with some in-house exposure
  • Commercial, pragmatic and confident advising a fast-paced, consumer-facing business
  • Comfortable reviewing and negotiating data protection clauses and agreements
  • Experience in a regulated environment is helpful but not essential
  • Privacy certifications (CIPP, CIPM, BCS or similar) are advantageous
What’s on offer
  • Hybrid working (2 days per week in a Central London office)
  • A visible, business-facing role within a growing yet financially stable FTSE 250 organisation
  • Genuine scope for development and progression
  • A collaborative culture where legal is viewed as an enabler of the business

If you’re a privacy lawyer looking for a role with influence, responsibility and long-term opportunity, this could be a strong next step.
