The Global Underwriting Manager will be part of Global Casualty Underwriting office providing AXA XL the ability to deploy Global Product Strategy and associated frameworks and controls.
As client’s casualty exposures become more sophisticated, new emerging risks present and inflationary legal trends persist, the role of the Global Casualty Underwriting Manager will be critical to driving underwriting excellence across our casualty products and supporting the development of tailored solutions to address their complex risks, validating AXA XL’s reputation as a market leader.
This is a regulated role under the Central Bank of Ireland’s Fitness and Probity regime.
What you’ll be doingWhat will your essential responsibilities include?
- Support the GCUO with development and review of Insurance contract wordings, in conjunction with Legal and Wordings
- Work in conjunction with the Global Underwriting Management team in the design and implementation of the Underwriting Authority Template
- Co‑ordination and collaboration with the network to ensure underwriting actions are followed up on and resolved
- Adoption of appropriate collaboration tools to share best practice guidance quickly and
- Co‑ordination of training material and support the overall successful delivery of training strategy. Using lessons learnt to drive improvements.
- Deployment of Global Casualty Product strategy and associated frameworks and controls
- Drafting Rules and Guidelines and business directives
- Document deviances to Rules and Guidelines e.g. systemic risks and associated exclusions
- Provide project Support for strategy development
- Cascade of Underwriting Authority, as pre‑agreed between CUO and BU CUO along with any required ongoing administration
- Effective referral management and maintenance of referral to CUO
- Stewardship of Delegated UW arrangements
- Underwriting analytics on data taken from the Mi tool
- Adoption of appropriate collaboration tools to share best practice guidance
You will report to the Global Chief Underwriting Officer (GCUO), General Liability.

- Demonstrated expertise and a solid track record in casualty underwriting and extensive experience within the global insurance industry.
- Capable of working self‑supported, with a global perspective and excellent business acumen.
- An effective collaborator who can build and maintain productive relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders worldwide; skilled at providing guidance and seeking input to achieve optimal outcomes.
- Experienced in working with virtual teams across diverse geographies and cultures, demonstrating cultural sensitivity and adaptability.
- Uses sound judgment to identify and resolve routine issues in straightforward situations efficiently.
- Proficient in analyzing and interpreting data to recognize trends and inform decision‑making, while engaging and collaborating with others as needed.
