We’re investing heavily in Financial Lines and have a brand-new opportunity for an Underwriter – Professional & Management Risks to join our expanding UK team.
This role sits within our fast-growing Broker Channel, where broker engagement, pipelines and new business volumes are increasing ’ll be front and centre of our growth strategy, underwriting complex risks, strengthening broker partnerships and helping Markel remain a preferred provider in the market.
With hybrid working and a London office base, this is an exciting time to join a business that values autonomy, expertise and ambition.
What You’ll Be Doing- Underwrite complex new business within your authority, delivering profitable growth against agreed financial targets
- Demonstrate strong technical underwriting capability across Professional Indemnity, Management Risks and Technology risks
- Build and maintain high-performing broker relationships, delivering a responsive and high-quality service
- Act as a trusted expert, confidently articulating Markel’s value proposition and underwriting appetite
- Actively develop pipeline opportunities with partner brokers to drive sustainable growth
- Collaborate closely with Underwriting, Distribution and internal stakeholders to deliver the right outcomes for brokers and their clients
- Maintain accurate broker and opportunity data using our CRM system
- Contribute to a coaching and mentoring culture, supporting consistent underwriting excellence across the team
We’re seeking ambitious, motivated underwriters who are ready to make their mark. You’ll bring:
- Proven underwriting experience within Professional Indemnity (essential)
- Strong technical knowledge across Financial Lines / PMR
- A demonstrable track record of building broker relationships and winning new business
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
- Confidence working with CRM systems and MS Office
- A commercial mindset balanced with disciplined underwriting judgement
