Apollo is a specialised, independent (re) insurer operating at Lloyd's, established in 2009 with a clear ambition: to deliver high-quality underwriting, service and partnerships in a market that values expertise and trust.

The name Apollo reflects our origins. Inspired by founding investor Neil Armstrong the first person to walk on the moon, the business was built with the same pioneering mindset. Alongside Jim Hays, Neil saw an opportunity to create a different kind of Lloyd's platform: focused, agile and built around people.

Since launch, Apollo has evolved into a diversified insurance group. Today, our offering spans traditional and specialty lines through Apollo 1969, innovative sharing‑economy solutions via ibott 1971, and managing agency services for Platform Partner Syndicates at Lloyd's.

As an Aviation Underwriter, you will be at the forefront of assessing, pricing, and underwriting aviation risks across a technically complex and specialist class of business. Working closely with the Head of Class and the wider underwriting team, you will play a key role in shaping portfolio performance, applying underwriting judgement, and supporting underwriting strategy within the Aviation portfolio.

You will act as a key point of contact for brokers and clients, clearly articulating underwriting appetite and approach, while ensuring all risks are underwritten in line with the Syndicate Business Plan, underwriting authority, and regulatory requirements.

• Underwriting and Portfolio Management - You will underwrite Aviation risks in line with the Syndicate Business Plan, underwriting authority, and underwriting guidelines, assessing, pricing, and determining coverage across the portfolio. You will monitor key underwriting KPIs and exposures, ensuring alignment with risk appetite and business plan objectives, and underwrite in accordance with the Aviation reinsurance programme, recognising any limitations or exclusions.
  
  You will actively participate in pre-bind and post-bind peer reviews, taking ownership of underwriting decisions.
• Risk Assessment and Decision Making - You will evaluate aviation insurance applications, considering all relevant risk factors and portfolio impact, and apply sound judgement when assessing complex and emerging aviation risks. This includes understanding and applying relevant pricing models, providing a clear rationale for pricing decisions, and contributing to wording development where required to address new or evolving risks.
• Broker, Client, and Market Engagement - You will liaise closely with brokers, attend client meetings and presentations, and build strong working relationships with approved intermediaries and coverholders. You will represent the business professionally within the Lloyd's and wider insurance market, contributing to portfolio discussions and supporting the continued development of the Aviation class.
• Governance, Compliance, and Reporting - You will ensure all business is underwritten in compliance with PRA, FCA, and Lloyd's regulatory requirements, as well as internal policies and procedures covering underwriting, pricing, delegated authority, Conduct, and Consumer Duty. You will maintain accurate underwriting records and provide management information and reporting to Underwriting Committees and senior stakeholders as required.
• Collaboration and Development - You will work closely with Claims to capture learnings from losses and identify emerging risks within the Aviation portfolio.
