The role is for a Senior Property Underwriter, focused on renewal retention and new business development in the middle market. You will be responsible for new business underwriting and trading with broker partners from across the UK, including pipelining, quoting, negotiating and writing new Property business. You will be expected to have Property experience, knowledge and aptitude to establish underwriting authority and exercise this within Chubb's technical guidelines and best practices.
Your track record for new business development in the Property middle‑market segment will be key, and you’ll be measured against key new business metrics and goals.
Positive engagement and collaboration with our broker partners, underwriting management, sales and distribution, and cross‑line colleagues will be essential to success in this role.
The role is based in London.
Responsibilities- Underwrite, quote and convert new Property business in the middle‑market segment in line with targets and the overall business plan.
- Regularly engage with our producers and BDMs to develop and execute a pipeline of opportunities.
- Demonstrate effective trading behaviours, negotiation, and engagement to successfully close new opportunities.
- Consistently provide a high level of underwriting service and speed of response to our brokers.
- Collaborate with sales and distribution, other lines of business, risk engineering, operations, and underwriting management to effectively deliver the Chubb proposition.
- Maintain underwriting integrity by adhering to Chubb's best practices and being monitored by regular peer reviews.
- Keep accurate underwriting records and data.
- Represent and promote Chubb to brokers, building strong relationships with key producers.
- Conduct business ethically within Chubb's code of conduct, compliance guidelines, underwriting guidelines and service standards.
- Advocate for the brand, building and maintaining an excellent external reputation consistent with Chubb's values, ethics, culture, and standards.
- A‑Levels or higher, with a degree or ACII (or progress towards these) preferred but not essential.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in Property underwriting.
- Experience holding high levels of underwriting authority in at least one core line of business, with the ability to operate across other lines of business.
- Ability to work under minimal direction within delegated underwriting authority.
- Strong expertise in risk analysis, interpretation and analysis of claims, and appropriate deployment of loss control resources.
- Track record as a dynamic new business development underwriter.
- Knowledge and experience in the middle‑market insurance segment.
- Results‑driven, able to make own decisions and work on own initiative.
- Ability to adjust to shifting priorities and thrive in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
- Team‑oriented collaboration skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Commitment to a high level of underwriting service and speed of response.
