Head of AI

A London-based, venture-backed scale-up — fresh off a significant funding round — is hiring a Head of AI to define and lead the next phase of its AI-driven product strategy.

This is a rare opportunity to build and scale an AI function from a position of strength, with real budget, board-level buy-in, and a clear mandate to deliver production-grade AI systems.

You’ll own AI strategy and execution end-to-end — from architecture decisions to team build-out — embedding advanced AI capabilities directly into core products.

This is not an “innovation lab” role.

This is production, revenue-impacting, customer-facing AI.

• Define and execute the company-wide AI & GenAI strategy
• Architect and deploy scalable LLM-powered systems in production
• Lead hands‑on development in Python (this role requires technical depth)
• Design and optimise RAG pipelines, agentic workflows and evaluation frameworks
• Own AI infrastructure on GCP (Vertex AI, Big Query, scalable ML pipelines)
• Establish best practice across MLOps, governance, security and model lifecycle
• Build and lead a high-performing AI/ML team

• Deep hands‑on experience with Python in ML/AI environments
• Strong commercial experience building with LLMs & GenAI frameworks
• Proven delivery of production AI systems (not just POCs)
• Experience architecting AI solutions on GCP
• Knowledge of vector databases, embeddings, prompt engineering and evaluation
• Experience leading teams in a scaling or high-growth environment
• Ability to operate strategically while remaining technically credible
