What is the purpose of this job? Supporting the Applications Manager in managing solutions using the Microsoft
365 environment and other cloud services. The Applications Support Specialist will provide both reactive and proactive support. Working across RDG's suite of cloud-based solutions, including the M365 tenancy, the post holder will resolve technical issues and help maintain the applications and environments used. This can range from simple issues that can be resolved quickly, to complex troubleshooting such as diagnosing loss of guest access.
Producing and maintaining documentation and training material, training and supporting RDG's workforce.
- Support cloud-based solutions, including SharePoint, Teams and the Power Platform
- Work as part of a team to provide professional technical support to our customers
- Build, configure and deploy Teams and SharePoint sites following guidelines, policies and procedures
- Train new SharePoint and Teams site administrators/owners to manage user permissions correctly to best practice, including external guest users
- Diagnose and resolve user permission issues, primarily external guest user access to secure SharePoint sites
- Undertake other duties within the scope of this post as directed by your manager

The post holder will be expected to work within established departmental processes and procedures with minimum day-to-day supervision, to provide a range of support and administrative services to an agreed quality standard as defined by the Applications Manager and the Head of IT. There is a degree of latitude to prioritise their own work and to exercise independence in the arrangement of immediate work priorities in order to react to changing priorities and to ensure that key deadlines and objectives are met.
The post holder is expected to apply their common sense and working knowledge to confidently provide support and seek solutions to routine day-to-day problems within their work area. They will be expected to produce recommendations and justifications when and where guidance is needed, to refer more complex issues/problems where the solution is not straightforward to their line manager for either guidance or resolution.
- CompTIA A+ or an equivalent certification
- Operational experience supporting solutions in SharePoint Online or Power Platform
- Working knowledge of the following M365 applications:
Teams, Planner, One Drive, Forms, Stream - 2+ years' experience using and/or supporting Word, PowerPoint, Excel
- Working knowledge of IT Service Desk systems
- Working knowledge of Desk/Room booking, Finance and HR systems
- Working knowledge of Azure Active Directory, specifically users and O365 groups
- Teamwork, Creative Thinking
- Ability to work collaboratively, sharing information and building supportive, responsive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders
