Responsibilities

  • Matrix managing a Sainsbury's team of Senior Architects on the Core Commercial Transformation Programme, prioritising workload, supporting design decisions and fostering connected design thinking across the community.
  • Collaborate with third party Architects from SAP and our Systems Integrator partner to define the SAP target state and roadmap for SAP commercial transformation, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture and our business goals.
  • Oversee the design and implementation of SAP capabilities, ensuring scalability, security, and adherence to best practices.
  • Ensure seamless integration of SAP transformation with impacted domains such as Finance, Supply Chain, and Retail, among others.
  • Govern architectural decisions across SAP work streams, including Retail Price, Article Management, and Promotions.
  • Identify and manage dependencies, risks, and technical debt within the transformation.
  • Work closely with Domain Architects, Integration, and Data Architects to ensure end‑to‑end consistency and alignment with North‑Star architecture plans.
  • Establish governance models for SAP‑related solution design and delivery.
  • Co‑chair the Core Commercial Transformation Design Authority.
  • Be an integral part of the Architecture Community of Practice, sharing expertise, contributing innovative design ideas, and promoting collaboration and innovation across teams. Specifically, direct and prioritise the workload of the Senior Architects within the team, who are aligned to functional work streams within the programme.
  • Lead a programme Architecture surgery to resolve points of contention in design decisions (prior to Design Authority) and to seek wider engagement and buy‑in on design decisions.
  • Stay informed about industry and retail developments, applying modern engineering techniques and cloud‑native design principles, building trust and credibility, and delivering results with a focus on problem‑solving and collaboration.

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of Architecture experience.
  • Strong knowledge of SAP S/4

    HANA and other SAP retail modules.
  • Knowledge of integration patterns such as Kafka, API, SOAP, and data transformation techniques.
Desirable Criteria
  • Experience with cloud integration.
  • Solid understanding of security standards.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to interact with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • An analytical and problem‑solving mindset.
  • Proactive and driven, able to prioritise and work to deadlines and direct the work of others.
  • Coaching and mentoring skills.
  • Retail experience.
