Cloud Platform Operations Engineer

As a Cloud Platform Operations Engineer you will play a key role in building automating and supporting our highly opinionated and configured AWS Account platform.

Reporting to the Cloud Platform Operations Lead you will help deliver a structured secure and efficient cloud environment that reduces developer cognitive load and enables product teams to move quickly and safely.

You will work closely with platform engineers, SREs, security and product teams to implement automation, operational guardrails and best practices across our AWS environments. Your work will directly support the Lead’s strategy for operational excellence, compliance and developer enablement.

• Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code (primarily Terraform) for AWS account provisioning, configuration and lifecycle management.
• Implement automation for baseline security compliance and operational controls.
• Develop and enhance self‑service tooling for account creation and platform services.

• Deliver structured AWS accounts with integrated capabilities for networking, security, compliance, cost optimisation, reliability and performance efficiency.
• Create and maintain clear documentation templates and onboarding guides to simplify developer adoption.
• Support developers by troubleshooting platform issues and providing enablement sessions.

• Monitor and maintain platform health using observability tools (AWS Cloud Watch, Datadog).
• Participate in incident response, root cause analysis and continuous improvement of platform reliability.
• Contribute to the enforcement of operational standards and guardrails.

• Work from a product backlog prioritising tasks that maximise developer outcomes and platform adoption.
• Collaborate with security, finance and engineering teams to align platform capabilities with business needs.
• Gather feedback from users and turn it into actionable platform improvements.

• Hands‑on experience with AWS services and multi‑account architectures.
• Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred; Cloud Formation, AWS CDK a plus).
• Scripting skills (Python, Bash or similar) and experience with CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with cloud security compliance and operational best practices.
• Strong troubleshooting and documentation skills.

• AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner or Associate‑level certification.
• Experience with Kubernetes, Helm and Git Ops workflows.
• Exposure to cloud security posture tools (e.g. Wiz).
• Knowledge of cost optimisation and tagging strategies.
