Data Engineering Functional Lead

Neko Health is a Swedish healthcare technology company co‑founded in 2018 by Hjalmar Nilsonne and Daniel Ek. The company’s vision is to shift healthcare from reactive treatment toward preventative health and early detection.

We are hiring a Data Engineering Functional Lead (DE FL) to join our Data & AI leadership team and support Neko’s AI vision and execution. This role will be central to how we build and scale AI and analytics across the company, developing our data infrastructure and systems to support data science and analytics needs.

• Own and define Neko’s Data Engineering strategy to lead preventive health data initiatives.
• Champion technical leadership, driving innovation in data engineering technologies and practices, while contributing hands‑on to deliverables.
• Build and maintain large‑scale data ingestion, storage, and modeling systems for multi‑regional needs.
• Establish common tooling and ways of working to enable efficient cross‑functional collaboration.
• Implement responsible AI governance covering fairness, privacy, explainability, and regulatory compliance (EU MDR, FDA, HIPAA, GDPR).
• Lead people: support growth, well‑being, and performance of the data engineering team.

• 5+ years of Data Engineering leadership with a proven track record of scaling data systems from startup to large, international scale.
• Experience building scalable data infrastructure and governance frameworks for multi‑region, sensitive data environments.
• Strong software design, SQL, and Python skills.
• Ability to inspire and grow a world‑class team.
• Strategic leader with both hands‑off credibility and organizational influence.
• Adept at delivering impact under large uncertainty in discovery‑driven phases.

We are a remote‑first company with nearly 100 full‑time engineers spread across Europe. The engineering organization consists of cross‑functional project teams that work on specific goals. The team uses React, Typescript, C++, Python, C#, ASP.NET Core, Azure Cosmos DB, and Azure Active Directory.

Staffing includes hardware, firmware, electrical, algorithm, data science, Optronics, and frontend disciplines. Software engineers based in Stockholm may work in office one day per week or bi‑weekly; other locations are fully remote.
