Chief Technology Officer (Part-time) | Simul Eight (UK)

Simul Eight is building an AI-powered construction management platform that brings together IoT data, digital-twin workflows, and SaaS delivery to help project teams improve programme certainty, compliance evidence, and decision-making.

We are looking for a Part-time CTO to lead the technology vision and guide early product build-out. This is a hands-on leadership role at an early stage, shaping the architecture, roadmap, and engineering practices as we move from prototype to MVP.

Key responsibilities
  • Define and own the overall technology vision, strategy, and technical roadmap aligned with business objectives.
  • Lead architecture and design decisions across IoT ingestion, cloud infrastructure, data pipelines, and product services.
  • Guide MVP delivery: platform foundations, scalability, performance, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Establish engineering standards: security-by-design, Dev Ops, testing, documentation, and observability.
  • Mentor and support the engineering function (including hiring/contractors as needed).
  • Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies where they provide measurable business value.
  • Identify and manage technical risks, including cybersecurity, privacy, and operational resilience.
Essential skills & experience
  • Strong track record building B2B SaaS products and scalable cloud systems.
  • Deep expertise in IoT systems (device data, telemetry, ingestion patterns, edge considerations).
  • Excellent knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP), APIs, and modern software architecture.
  • Proven ability to translate business needs into practical, scalable technical solutions.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills; comfortable working with non-technical stakeholders.
  • Solid understanding of cybersecurity principles and secure architecture.
Nice to have
  • Experience in construction tech, BIM/digital twin concepts, or project controls workflows.
  • Data/AI product experience (predictive insights, analytics, risk signals).
Working model
  • Part-time engagement (flexible structure to be agreed).
  • UK-based preferred (remote/hybrid considered).
