Overview
This role sits at the intersection of Data Engineering and Data Analytics, transforming raw data into high‑quality, trustworthy datasets and visualisations for business users. It requires strong SQL, dbt, data modelling, and experience with cloud data platforms.
Core Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable ELT pipelines using dbt, loading raw data into Snowflake and producing clean, ready‑to‑use data models.
- Implement best‑practice data modelling techniques to optimise performance, accuracy, and usability for reporting and analytics.
- Write comprehensive data quality checks, tests, and monitoring scripts; document all data transformations and models.
- Collaborate closely with Data Analysts and business users to understand reporting needs and optimise data models.
- Collaborate with Data Engineers on ingestion strategies and platform optimisation.
- Tune and optimise SQL queries and data models to reduce latency and improve performance in the data warehouse.
- Champion modern data‑stack tools and practices, including Git and CI/CD.
- Build scalable, compelling visualisations in Looker for large teams.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years experience in a data‑focused role (Analytics Engineer, Data Analyst, BI Developer).
- Expert‑level proficiency in writing and optimising complex SQL queries.
- Hands‑on experience with dbt or similar data transformation frameworks.
- Experience with cloud‑based data warehouses such as Snowflake, Big Query, or Redshift.
- Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts, ETL/ELT principles, and dimensional modelling techniques.
- Proficiency with Git for collaborative development.
- Familiarity with reporting/BI tools like Looker.
Preferred Qualifications
- Python expertise for automation, integration, and orchestration.
- Experience with semantic layers.
- Experience with Airflow orchestration tools.
- Knowledge of modern software engineering practices applied to data (modularity, code review, testing).
