DescriptionV.Ships Leisure is looking for Assistant Laundry Master on behalf of Silversea Cruises. Responsible to deliver a high quality, efficient and technically excellent daily laundry operation in accordance with Company Policies and strictly upholding any Public Health standards and towards a goal of achieving total guest satisfaction. Overseeing the entire Laundry operation onboard.
Key Responsibilities- Monitors and supervises guest laundry washing, wet cleaning and pressing services.
- Ensures that all guest garments are delivered and presented as per Silversea standards.
- Ensures that the correct guest laundry handling takes place respecting the VIP guest list.
- Reports promptly to the supervisors all tears, damage or stains prior to or post washing.
- Coordinates the laundering of all shipboard personnel uniforms with the linen keeper and the crew member as per Company schedules and procedures.
- Coordinates the laundering of crew personal garments and executes charging as per the Benefit Grid in coordination with the Finance Officer.
- Oversees the sorting and washing, pressing and distribution of all housekeeping, spa and F&B linen and reports any damages to the department heads.
- Oversees the setting of formulas and cycles for all types of linen and types of soil.
- Examines each finished product at the end of each cycle to ensure that the desired result has been achieved.
- Carries out daily inspections of the equipment to ensure that they are operating at optimum capacity and that the water is at maximum temperature and steam at correct pressure, reporting any deviations or anticipatory maintenance to the Hotel Engineer and Chief Housekeeper.
- Maintains an accurate inventory, storage and handling of laundry chemicals and consumables supply, submitting requisitions when required.
- Inspects dryers on daily basis to ensure that they are free of lint and snagging and operating at optimal temperature.
- Ensures that all safety and Public health Logs are maintained and correctly filled out.
- Works as a team with all other laundry men and assists when and where needed.
- Responsible for cleaning materials/chemicals and the correct storage of such.
- Monitors the working hours of the laundry team, reporting to the supervisor any anticipated increases.
- Maintains a high level of communication and feedback within the Supervisor as well as other departments.
- Adheres to departmental standards, specifications and work routines.
- Follows up on special departmental daily side duty assignments.
- Assists with regular inventories of housekeeping department equipment.
- Strictly follows the Outbreak Response regulations.
- Cleans and maintains area and equipment according to Public Health standards.
- Properly and carefully uses ship equipment and truthfully reports faulty or broken equipment. Monitors repair progress with supervisor until repaired.
- Strives to minimize breakage and wastage and follows proper procedures when disposing of garbage.
- Displays cost and quality awareness.
- Assists managers and supervisors with the training and induction of new personnel.
- Proactively responds to issues or potential problems quickly and efficiently involving relevant people as required. Communicates any challenges, complaints or service difficulties to immediate supervisor.
- Attends all training sessions with the aim to further improve his/her level of performance.
- Practices preventative maintenance.
- Keeps the supervisors promptly and fully informed of all problems and matters of significance.
- Adheres to Standard Operating Procedures set forth by the Company, and is accountable for such practices.
- Practices good people management, maintaining proper conduct with all departments around the ship.
- Observes and enforces Code of Conduct and uniform and grooming standards according to Company policies.
- Ensuring all subordinates are aware of the Content of the Laundry section in the Housekeeping manual.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Valid STCW
95 certification. - Previous laundry experience in a 5 star establishment.
- Knowledge of Public Health policies and procedures.
- Physically and medically fit.
- Moral integrity is required.
- Language requirements:
Excellent fluent English (verbal and written). English is the working and safety language on board Silversea vessels. This also includes the ability to give and receive instructions in verbal and written forms and to effectively and efficiently engage with guests and crew members.
