DescriptionV.Ships Leisure is looking for Laundry Man on behalf of Silversea Cruises. Under the leadership and guidance of the Laundry Master the Laundry Man is to develop his knowledge of the overall laundry operation with a responsibility to deliver a high quality, efficient and technically excellent daily laundry operation in accordance with Company Policies and strictly upholding any Public Health standards and towards a goal of achieving total guest satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities- Prepares soiled linen for washing.
- Sorts linen by degree of soil and type of fabric.
- Ensures that linen is free of garbage and sorted by colour.
- Checks for any tears or damages of guest and crew clothes before washing and reports them to the Laundry Master.
- Laundering of all onboard linen, guest and crew clothes and uniforms.
- Is aware of the correct pre spotting of soiled guests garments and crew uniforms.
- Loads the machines properly and selects the correct formula on the washing machines.
- Irons, wet cleans guest and crew garments as required.
- Responsible for the proper use of chemicals.
- Irons all housekeeping and F&B linen as per the Company standards.
- Inspects the quality of washed and ironed linen and separate for re-washing if needed.
- Informs the Laundry Master about any malfunctions of the equipment.
- Reports any leaking valves or damaged insulation to the Laundry Master.
- Cleans the dryer lint screens.
- Works as a team with all other laundry men and assists when and where needed.
- Responsible for cleaning materials/chemicals and the correct storage of such.
- Ensures proper handling of cleaning agents.
- Embarkation and disembarkation duties as assigned by the Chief Housekeeper.
- Maintains a high level of communication and feedback within the Housekeeping department as well as other departments around the ship.
- Adheres to departmental standards, specifications and work routines.
- Follows up on special departmental daily side duty assignments.
- Assists with regular inventories of Housekeeping department equipment.
- Strictly follows the Outbreak Response regulations.
- Cleans and maintains area and equipment according to Public Health standards.
- Properly and carefully uses ship equipment and truthfully reports faulty or broken equipment. Monitors repair progress with supervisor until repaired.
- Strives to minimize breakage and wastage and follows proper procedures when disposing of garbage.
- Displays cost and quality awareness.
- Assists managers and supervisors with the training and induction of new personnel.
- Proactively responds to issues or potential problems quickly and efficiently involving relevant people as required. Communicates any challenges, complaints or service difficulties to immediate supervisor.
- Attends all training sessions with the aim to further improve his/her level of performance.
- Adherence to the Company’s code of conduct at all times.
- Practices preventative maintenance.
- Keeps the supervisor promptly and fully informed of all problems and matters of significance.
- Adheres to Standard Operating Procedures set forth by the Company, and is accountable for such practices.
- Practices good people management, maintaining proper conduct with all departments around the ship.
- Observes and enforces uniform and grooming standards according to Company policies.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Valid STCW
95 certification. - Previous laundry experience in a 5 star establishment.
- Knowledge of Public Health policies and procedures.
- Physically and medically fit.
- Moral integrity is required
- Language requirements:
Excellent fluent English (verbal and written). English is the working and safety language on board Silversea vessels. This also includes the ability to give and receive instructions in verbal and written forms and to effectively and efficiently engage with guests and crew members.
