Overview
The Mental Health Support Teams are part of an NHS England/Health Education England funded project to improve the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people in the community. City & Hackney have been a Wave 1 site and a Wave 6 site in 2022, with further investment in 2026 enabling continued rollout. This now makes up 4 funded teams covering City & Hackney schools.
The role sits within WAMHS (Well-being and Mental Health in Schools Service), which focuses on improving access to help and the overall culture of emotional support in primary and secondary schools including special educational provisions and PRUs. Working alongside community partners, WAMHS and MHSTs are integrated with CAMHS and educational settings.
- Support the Clinical Team Leads to provide day to day clinical operational management and leadership for the clinical functioning of WAMHS, while working with project leaders to develop and implement interventions and projects with local schools.
- Lead on and directly provide comprehensive assessment, risk management and interventions for young people experiencing emotional and mental health difficulties; work with school staff and school cultures to develop environments conducive to better emotional health and wellbeing.
- Incorporate operational management with the provision of specialist supervision, consultation and training to practitioners within the neighbourhood team.
- Provide clinical lead and supervisory responsibility for other members of WAMHS, including multi-disciplinary CAMHS clinicians and Education Mental Health Practitioners (EMHPs).
- Conduct direct CAMHS outreach into schools and provide training for school staff to support whole school approaches to mental health and wellbeing.
- The post holder will be supported to complete formal training with Kings College London’s course in supervision of EMHPs or in Transformation and Change Leadership.
- The post holder will share leadership for a diverse range of professionals working across primary and secondary schools and colleges in the borough.
