Job Summary
St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced physiotherapist with a passion for oncology and haematology to join our established inpatient team. The role involves providing clinical and leadership support across the oncology, haematology and infectious diseases inpatient wards, collaborating with a Band 7 occupational therapist and other therapy disciplines, and delivering evidence‑based, patient‑centred rehabilitation programmes to support inpatient recovery and discharge planning.
Key Responsibilities- Lead clinical support to the inpatient oncology, haematology and infectious diseases wards.
- Collaborate closely with a Band 7 occupational therapist and other therapy disciplines to optimise service delivery.
- Develop and deliver in‑service training and support the professional development of junior staff and students.
- Participate in quality improvement and service improvement projects, contributing to clinical governance and audit.
- Provide individualised, evidence‑based care and guide discharge planning for patients.
- Maintain effective communication with MDT, nursing staff, clinical nurse specialists and the medical team.
- Work an enhanced weekend service and be available for night on‑calls.
- Adhere to Trust manual handling guidelines and perform on‑call and weekend duties.
- Degree or equivalent in physiotherapy.
- HPC registration.
- Evidence of continuing professional development, including recent postgraduate courses relevant to the clinical field.
- Recognised postgraduate qualification (e.g., MSc) – desirable.
- Membership of ACPOPC – desirable.
- Leadership training – desirable.
- Minimum 1 year NHS experience (including undergraduate experience).
- Minimum 4 years post‑graduate experience, with at least 2 years in haematology and oncology.
- Experience of undertaking clinical audit, service development and change management.
- Experience managing physiotherapy staff, teaching and supervising students.
- Experience of multidisciplinary team working.
- Experience of postgraduate research projects – desirable.
- Experience of operational team management – desirable.
- Physically fit and able to comply with Trust manual handling guidelines.
- Professional demeanour and self‑motivated, able to lead staff training.
- Strong written and oral communication, with ability to organise, prioritise and delegate.
- Proactive, evidence‑based approach, able to cope with high‑stress environments.
- Knowledge of clinical governance, audit and quality improvement.
- Updated on professional practice and new research.
- Aware of data protection, equality and health & safety policies.
- Competent IT and presentation skills – desirable.
- Ability to run courses (internal/external) – desirable.
- Team member, flexible, empathic, reliable, logical, good communicator, compassionate, good time management.
Band 7 – fixed‑term 12 months, full‑time. Salary £56,276 to £63,176 per annum (gross, inclusive of HCAS 20 %). Position will commence 1 April 2025 and end 31 March 2027, with potential for a substantive role thereafter.
