Parliament Hill Medical Centre is a small, hardworking, innovative and friendly practice. This role is a key first point of contact, on the front desk face‑to‑face or by phone.

Our team includes GPs, GP registrars, pharmacists, physician associates, nurses and practice assistants. Job DescriptionPosition: Practice Assistant
Reports to: Practice Manager
Hours: Full‑time (35 hours per week) on a shift pattern between 8 am and 6:30 pm.
Salary: Dependent on experience
Contract: Permanent
Working pattern: Full‑time
Location: 113‑117 Highgate Road, London, NW5 1TR
Key Responsibilities- Open and close the reception on your shift
- Assist, direct and register patients in an efficient and courteous manner
- Provide general assistance to the practice team and present a positive image to patients and visitors
- Process repeat prescription requests and check emails
- Sort mail and post (incoming and outgoing)
- Scan clinical letters, manage workflow and file online consultations for triage
- Register new patients and maintain record books and files
- Photocopy and scan insurance documents and reports
- Arrange patient transport when required
- Code patient notes
- Ensure compliance with health & safety, confidentiality and infection control policies
- Support equality, diversity and safeguarding practices
- Participate in annual performance reviews and maintain a record of development
- Attend necessary training programmes and infection control training (minimum annually)
- Contribute to quality improvement and audit processes
Essential
- Ability to work well as part of a team
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure and use own initiative
- Good numeracy and computer skills (Microsoft Office)
- Maintain absolute patient confidentiality
- Flexible and able to adapt to change
- Good spoken English
Desirable
- Previous health‑service/General Practice experience
- Previous reception and administration experience
- Experience with EMIS and Docman
