Do you want to work for an award winning, well-supported, friendly, dynamic, culturally astute, inclusive environment that puts women/birthing people at the centre of a high standard of care whose
If so, we just might have the job for you!
Our latest CQC report has been published and we have maintained our good rating since 2017 and have been awarded as outstanding for leadership.
We now have an exciting opportunity for a band 6 midwife to join our well-established midwifery team looking after our Induction of Labour (IOL) clients. The induction rate across London is rising and we want to improve this experience for clients within our unit.
At Queen Elizabeth Hospital the 24-hour Induction Suite is based on the co-aligned Greenwich Birth Centre, utilising five single side rooms, providing essential privacy and dignity during the induction process. You will form a close working relationship with the Birth Centre midwifery team, along with our multidisciplinary teams and also become part of our inpatient midwifery team. There will be great opportunities for you, not just enhancing existing midwifery skills, but also being part of the exciting IOL service that we know will improve our patient experience.
Mainduties of the job
You will be required to commence care for the women/birthing people admitted for induction of labour as an autonomous practitioner, working alongside a maternity support worker. This will involve liaising with the Obstetric team and working closely with the labour ward Co-ordinator. Induction care will continue until transfer to labour ward/Birth centre is required.
You will manage the daily IOL admission list, ensuring clients are accommodated according to clinical priority. Risk assessment will be an essential element of your care, ensuring the appropriate place of induction.
You will need to be competent in providing the necessary care and advice to your clients, depending on their needs. We expect you to have a sound knowledge of all areas of midwifery care, including Antenatal Cardiotocograph interpretation. Training and support is available.
Communication is an essential part of this role. You will need to be an effective communicator, with the ability to ensure the effective smooth running of the IOL Suite. This may involve changing priority of incoming IOLs, escalation of delays in the IOL process or arranging for transfer of clients to our sister site, University Hospital Lewisham, to continue their IOL journey.
