Job Summary

Job Summary – St. Bartholomew's Hospital is looking to recruit a Healthcare Support Worker (HCA) Band 3 who will work in Cancer Day Unit. This post is open to individuals who are both experienced Healthcare Support Workers as well as those new to care. You will receive support to complete the Band 3 competencies and progress into a Band 3 role within 6 months upon successful completion of all required competencies;

until then, you will be placed at a Band 2 salary.

As part of the recruitment process for this post, candidates will be required to complete an online literacy and numeracy test and only if they pass this, will they be invited to a formal interview.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be an integral part of the nursing team actively taking part in meeting the needs of patients and of the service in accordance with agreed standards under direct supervision of the registered nurse. The post holder will continue to develop essential competencies through training and practice to ensure safety and quality are the priority.

Essential

Qualifications

  • NVQ Social Care level 2/3
  • NVQ level 2 numeracy and literacy or equivalent
  • Completion of Care Certificate or equivalent
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills (English and Maths GCSEs or equivalent)
  • Evidence of ongoing personal development

Desirable

  • Level 2 support worker Apprenticeship

Experience

  • Working experience as HCSW
  • Experience of working in an acute health care environment
  • Venepuncture/Phlebotomy experience
  • Experience undertaking patients observations and vital sign monitoring
  • Experience of dealing with the public

Knowledge

  • Understands the need for confidentiality
  • Understanding of responsibilities under the health and safety legislation
  • Awareness of health and safety at work (manual handling, infection control)
  • Ability to collect and exchange factual information and data to the multidisciplinary team and ensure data accuracy
