Job Summary
Job Summary The Pharmacy Department provides a fully comprehensive pharmaceutical service across the Trust and to external community units. It is a large and busy department with over 180 staff including pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, pharmacy assistants, admin and clerical staff and apprentices. The department delivers various functions and services while maintaining a high level of patient care. The Pharmacy Department orders, receives and supplies medicines to wards and departments throughout the Trust and external units.
This includes dispensing for inpatients, outpatients, community units and ward stock, with around 2,500 items supplied daily. Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians are integral to the multidisciplinary team, and the department provides Aseptic Services such as chemotherapy and other sterile products. A Quality Assurance team ensures products are prepared and supplied to high quality standards. To support an expansion of chemotherapy services at the NNUH, new funding has been received for the Aseptic department to increase capacity.
Main duties of the job We have an opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Pharmacy Aseptic Services Technician to join our large and busy pharmacy aseptic team. You will either be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council or the Science Council, or recently qualified/close to qualifying and preparing to register.
Note:
if you are close to qualifying as a Pharmacy Technician and are successful in gaining this post, you will be required to have completed 2 years work experience with your current employer and gain registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council before you can start work in this post.
Pharmacy Technicians and Science Manufacturing Technicians are vital members of the pharmacy aseptic team who work closely with Pharmacists, Pharmacy Assistants and other staff within the Pharmacy and Trust.
The Main Aspects Of This Role Are:- Performing pre-manufacture checks on items waiting to be prepared
- Generation of worksheets
- Aseptic manufacture of products
- Transfer decontamination and cleaning
- Training of new staff in the unit
- Prepare the aseptic unit and equipment including calibration checks for daily working
- Produce worksheets and labels for cytotoxic drugs using the computerised system (JAC)
- Produce worksheets and labels for TPN/CIVAS using the computerised system (JAC)
- Reconstitute and manufacture TPN/CIVAS and cytotoxic drugs under the supervision of Senior Pharmacy Technicians in accordance with departmental SOPs and the Guide to Good Manufacturing Practice; highlight deviations in practice
